The Amsterdam food scene is only getting better and better! And as an expat local, I would know. I moved here 15 years ago from London.
London then was already a vibrant food and innovative food mecca. It transformed itself during the Britpop area, where the Brits finally ditched the drudgery of bland vegetables, and tired-looking overcooked meat through sheer force of those celebrity chefs Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson who collectively created a world-class British food scene. They made home-cooking possible and accessible - which in turn, transformed their fellow country men to demanding guests - hence why you have choice and higher quality, from the top to the bottom across London.
I'm not a food critic, I know what I like and what tastes good and after growing up in Melbourne, a bustling city of immigrants, I always knew good food with a vibrant food scene was possible.
I just had to wait patiently to see that come to life in Amsterdam - and it's really starting to show.
